Friday the 13th: Unlucky for Some, Unstoppable for Others

They say fear sells—but so does boldness
They say fear sells—but so does boldness

There’s always been a strange charge in the air when Friday the 13th rolls around. Maybe it’s because my mother was born on one—and trust me, she didn’t just believe the superstitions, we lived them. Salt tossed over shoulders, ladders avoided like potholes, mirrors treated like ancient relics. Cue the eerie music. Dim the lights. Somewhere, a black cat tiptoes across a cracked sidewalk like it owns the place.

For centuries, this day has carried the weight of fear—whispers of bad luck, broken promises, and elevators that skip right past the 13th floor. But I think we're reading it wrong?

What if Friday the 13th isn’t a bad day to avoid...But a creative portal to walk boldly through?

Rewriting the Story

They say fear sells—but so does boldness. For creators, entrepreneurs, and visionaries, Friday the 13th isn’t about superstition. It’s about subversion. It’s about walking straight into the myths and saying,“Let me show you what I can make out of what they fear.”

Here’s a radical idea: what if today is actually your luckiest day to...

  • Launch the project you’ve been overthinking

  • Record that weird, wonderful podcast episode that’s been haunting your drafts

  • Share your story, not despite the fear—but because of it

  • Flip the narrative, rebrand the darkness, and find your light in it

That’s the power of Friday the 13th. It dares you to step beyond the known. It begs you to be bold, or at the very least, different.

Creative Superstitions You Should Believe In

While we’re at it, let’s start some superstitions of our own. Here are a few we stand by:

  • Spilled coffee on a script is a sign of passionate genius.

  • Every glitch in your livestream is just the algorithm’s way of testing your resilience.

  • If no one’s done it before, it’s probably worth doing.

At Silver Foxx Media, We Don't Run From Ghost Stories—We Record Them

Whether we’re in the studio with our interns or producing shows with soul and strategy, Friday the 13th reminds us that creativity isn’t afraid of shadows. It’s shaped by them.

So to all my creators out there—if today feels spooky, strange, or slightly off-center, lean in.

Write the episode. Launch the pilot. Pitch the dream.

Make Friday the 13th your origin story, not your excuse.

🖤 Wishing you strange courage and wild inspiration,
